Last year, he played on Sfinks Festival in Antwerp (Boechout).

We are, ALBINO!, winner of the 2005 SF Music Awards for "Best World" band.
We are a 12-piece afrobeat band with a mix of musicians from west africa, cuba, and the states. We haved toured extensively (nationally) over the last couple of years but are limited to weekend tours for the summer and fall. We play music inspired by Fela Kuti and the Africa 70 and have mostly original songs.
Albino! is a tight community who has the ability, energy, and desire to connect with our audience and share this music. We have authentic flavor and are looking for an experienced frontman or woman who can sing AND take the front stage to capture our audience. A huge plus if you play conga or clave. Our sax player also sings and will be co-fronting the band as well. Please be available as this band is a commitment (we rehearse once a week on wednesdays). We are looking for commitment and charisma. Let us know about your vocal skills (online samples) and performance backround. Serious inquiries only please.

That's right, Femi Kuti, son of Our Heavy Father of Afrobeat, is at The Fillmore Wed July 27 and Albino! is playing the after-party next door at the Boom Boom Room. We're gonna cram ourselves all up on that stage sardine-style, along with our super-soulful guest vocalist Jethro Jeremiah. And who knows who else might drop on by from next door to sit in...?

We'll even have a new live Albino! CD available for sale at the Boom Boom, w! hich was recorded at our recent Elbo Room and Crystal Bay Casino shows.

Be on the lookout for a feature on Albino! in next week's SF Weekly that will chronicle the soap opera that is our history. And yes, the movie rights are still available.

I truly can't believe that for Baba's tribe nothing has been moving.... Then why have this in the first place, whilst he was alive this man was constantly doing things...... Be it music (which he constantly churned out), performing at The Shrine (in Lagos) or throwing shit in the shitstem (system....government)..... at least if this forum for him is to continue.... we should honor it by doing the same thing..... abi?!

Seen Antibalas twice in LA, first time at the Fais Do Do, second time just a year ago or so in a little tiny bar in Hollywood. It's a trance, they play non stop for three hours, until you drop dead basically. They have their own website and 2 CD's already out there which are great. Don't ever miss them. www.Antibalas.com

Fela played at the Watsworth Veterans Auditorium, he smoked some joints and shirtless he blasted Bush father and his war on Iraq, he also portrayed the UN as a big world joke, and he played his piano with such perfect disonance that he remainded us all that he is the onlyone whoa can do it so well.

sure you all have heard, but in case you haven't...

as far as i know, they are ninjatune's only none-electronica group. they are an afrobeat band with HEAVY fela influences. for added spice, the horn section brings a lot of latin flavor into the mix. they hail from williamsburg, brooklyn, but tour often.

check it. you will not regret it.

best albums?

Man I heard this one cd -I have no idea what it was called- but I am guessing that it was from around '68-72. I believe there was 5 maybe 6 songs on it. Funky as hell! Fela is just roaring like a lion and the horns are so full. The Bari sax is pretty low in the mix but there are multiple trumpets blaring. Any guesses on which one it might be?
